The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has reported that a head-on collision three miles east of Wyandotte claimed four lives on Sunday afternoon. Samantha Delamatter of Fairland; Willis George Jr. of Webb City, Mo.; and Drake Cobb and Syrrena Sanderson of Garland, Texas, were pronounced dead on U.S. 60 one half mile west of Ottawa County Road 680.
According to the OHP, George was operating a Ford Mustang east on U.S. 60 when his car crossed center into oncoming traffic where it struck a Ford Ranger driven by Spencer Anderson of Fairland. Delamatter was a passenger in Anderson’s truck. Anderson was treated for injuries to his head, arms and legs and was released from a Joplin hospital.
The OHP reported that George, Cobb and Anderson were wearing seat belts, but Delamatter and Sanderson were not.
The failure to wear a seatbelt in compliance with the Oklahoma Mandatory Seatbelt Act will likely factor into the insurance company’s valuation of any future claims made against an insurance policy by arguing that the claimant contributed to his injuries.
